I really would like to start learning web code. I already know basic HTML and can learn that on the way, but what I would like are some CSS tutorials (video tutorials prefered) for beginners. No real preference, just some cool Web 2.0 outcomes etc.

Think you can help me? tongue.gif

CSS isn't that hard to learn, especially if you already know the basic HTML stuff.
Here are a few good sites to check out;
http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp
http://www.csszengarden.com/
http://www.pixel2life.com/tutorials/css_stylesheets/
http://www.dynamicdrive.com/style/

Good luck! smile.gif

I began with w3schools and I've been an admirer of csszengarden for a long time, I even tried to make my own but I fucked it up a few times and haven't done anything with it since. After that I coped up with Tom and helped him out with Xeroh making a CSS/HTML document from a PSD-file, tried rly hard and found some good techniques on the web like The Holy Grail and other cool stuffs. After that I have playing with own pages just for fun and learned much all by my own. The basics is easy to learn, but the advanced things takes some time and devotion.

Good luck with it, I hope you learn it smooth. smile.gif Just ask if it is anything!

Some good one's up there. My favorite is CSS ZenGarden as mark mentioned above. It basically is an example of a simple HTML page, that has hundreds of different designs and layout only by changing the CSS. The HTML always stays the same, and you can just see the vast variety of layout and design concepts people have done by creating their own CSS for this HTML page. Some other good resources...

Well depending on what you are trying to learn CSS for I agree with all above who said either W3school or ZenGarden, they cover the basics and even some more advanced stuff as well. If you are trying to learn CSS for Artician then I would just say learn the basics and then just mess around with the code for your page. But please do not do Web 2.0 it is so overused and its currently dying out.

I agree strongly with this one. It's gotten pretty tiring. There are some web 2.0 components that you will most probably use, but aiming for web 2.0 instead of usability won't really get you anywhere. Go your own way, make your own mistakes, and learn from others, instead of just making the same mistakes other people have done by copying a style. Same goes for most creative pursuits, e.g. just because you can trace a picture doesn't mean you can draw.

One thing that's helped me a lot is looking at css templates and sources of web pages to read the CSS and understand how they've made it work, whenever I notice a cool feature. There are some pretty sweet techniques out there that can save you a lot of trouble. Just don't infringe on any copyrights. tongue.gif

If you're still interested in aiming for web 2.0, here's a quick generator. wink.gif

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/ <--- Great for inspiration, editor reviews, css templates/tutorials/techniques, etc etc. smile.gif Have fun and g'luck.

Edit: Lol! Completely missed the date on this one. Maybe someone else will have use of the information. smile.gif

First, I would start by studying the usability side of things. It's all well and good to start hacking around with CSS and XHTML - but having a solid grounding in user interface design will *vastly* help you with learning CSS. A couple of people have already pointed to Alistapart, and I would recommend studying their articles and tips very closely.
Would also recommend this site discussing 12 standard web designs. Squeaky Clean CSS will help you vastly in the long run as well.

CSS Help Pile is a random assortment of helpful CSS articles, links, tutorials and more.
Top 10 CSS Tutorials has some interesting links.

Past that, I would recommend just hacking around with Open-Source templates from places like Open Web Design - that's the best way to learn CSS....hands-on. Reverse engineering is useful in web design.
