Using current GIMP and wanting to start making vectors, tried a tut from curly haired boy over at the gimptalk forum and it just isn't sinking in. If you've got a good one gimme me a hand and throw the link up.

Cheers

If you want to do vectors, I'd suggest getting Inkscape. http://www.inkscape.org/ It is free just like Gimp and a very powerful/feature rich. It will just make vectoring easier for you.

Here's a site that has plenty of tutorials to follow. http://vector.tutsplus.com/

Remember that for the most part, tutorials are not application specific. Gimp can do photoshop tutorials and Inkscape can do Illustrator tutorials. The open source apps almost always have a substitute or workaround to get the same results as the proprietary apps.

Well, if you are looking to create a vexel image, you are definitely going to need vector editor... like InkScape. If you are looking to just vectorize an image, then, traditionally, you use the pentool to trace over an image until it is fully vectorized. An alternative is to "cheat" and go to http://www.vectormagic.com which "vectorizes" images for you.

And like gReYwOuLdBeThEcOlOr said, tutorials are usually not application specific. You can easily improvise, like when I used GIMP I never followed GIMP tutorials- all of them were PhotoShop wink.gif

Oh, right, I almost forgot to post a site that provided vector tutorials. Well, all I had to do was Google "vector tutorials" and I found many sites within a quarter minute wink.gif

The list goes on smile.gif

I've been over to inkscape, I was pretty impressed with it, but didn't know it could do vectors. Awesome, thanks. smile.gif
