I'm trying to draw up a price plan to give to prospective clients, and I need to know how much to charge one of my new clients for its logo design.

What do/would you charge for a logo design?

$100 usually. Though I'll go $50 if I like the client. I don't do graphic design anymore though, leave that to my sister and she's currently in the $50 range as she's been working for likeable clients smile.gif

I generally charge $50 p/hour... get a brief from the client, make an assessment on how long *you* think it will take, give an estimated quote, not a quote. by the time you take into consideration the time spent stuffing around with quoting, planning, brainstorming (time is money), invoicing, power, electricity, software costs and other bills, the costs really build up. im not saying charge a fortune - just don't underestimate your worth. after all, they're coming to you for your experience/knowledge/skills and you should make a living from your work. none of this "starving artist" crap!

of coarse, you may have to dabble around and gain the experience, get a reputation, do a few freebies to build a portfolio first. but like a said, don't sort change yourself if you know you'll do a good job. i use to do it all the time and it will bite you in the ass come time to pay rent.

ussually i do charge my client for logo design between $40 and $60. But first, i must know, list of design application that clent want to appicated. So, from that, i will send my quotation. For example: when clent need 5 - 10 application like business card, letter head, id card, envelope, stamp and so on, the charge is $30, but when cilent need for 11 - 15 appication, the charge is $40.

Logo design is a tricky thing to bill for.
You have to consider quite a lot.
If the company you are designing for is going to get big and get lots of recognition for the logo you are doing for them...you would charge something like...$5000+

I think a lot of people underestimate the value of logo design and company branding.

Nice lil article.

You need to observe each and every client and figure it out. You should be doing drafts of their logo and come up with several styles and what not.

Look at this case study: http://digitalmash.com/journal/articles/whats-in-a-name/

He creates a hand full of different logos and colors... You may spend a few hours on that alone.

The price for what you would charge let's say Coca-Cola to create a logo for one of their new products or for a basketball team or what not would be a lot more then you would charge a law office down the road.

Ken Loh charged the Patriots $12,000 15 years ago to do their logo... Now that logo is everywhere... You can read about that here: http://articles.latimes.com/2008/jan/20/sports/sp-plaschke20

Well, that depends on the hours you spent and the resources the logo required you to get! right?
It must be a reasonable price, but you need to have a range in mind b4 actually proposing the price to your client.

This must go down as some of the best advice I've seen here. Charging to little will always come to bite you in the backside. Clients have a tendency to think that, because you charge a small amount, your work isn't of high quality. And what about when you want to raise your costs?
