On the bright side, often when you DO have people interested in your work, they are VERY interested. Always nice to have fans.

What did you write that got you reported?

Everything is competitive. Personally, I'd still take a Terry Pratchett or Neil Gaiman book over Harry Potter any day.

I write short-ish prose. On dA, I've gotten a fair amount of views for it, but I just joined here, so we'll see. I agree, though. Some of my friends who look at EVERY PIECE of my art will avoid my writing (which I consider to be better) just because they're too lazy to take the time to read it. It's a little dissappointing.

And Twilight sucks.

@7outerElements: You're right about Twilight being like junk food. Give Rowling some credit though-she definitely got better the more she wrote, and the fact that she got people who would never touch a book to read is a good thing.

Of course, the fact that she is also directly responsible for the creation of Harry Potter fanfic is rather damning...

You know, I posted a bunch of stuff on dA. It was sad that a rock musical I was writing using System of a Down music got tons of comments, however, my own original lyrics and prose rarely got any. When they were first posted got a few random ones, mostly from people browsing the Deviations updated in the last -blah- seconds, but it never seemed to get found.

Anyways, I'm a writer myself - mostly lyrics, some prose. I may bring my rock musical over here, but I don't think I'm going to finish it, and it's more just a fun idea than a serious writing project.

I am a writer and an artist as well. I have not uploaded anything to this site yet (I didn't know they added the feature, I knew they were talking about adding it last time I saw. Though I may be looking into it.

My work will be in one of two formats. Novel chapters, or script chapters, scripts being what I do if the story is going to be used in a graphic novel form. Sometimes my stuff can get a little difficult to read... I'm dyslexic so yeah... sometimes a random sentence I wrote will read fine to me, but look like some sorta mystery word scramble that you need a secret decoder ring for to everyone else >< I work hard on fixing this issue of mine though, and constantly going through searching for and correcting. It's work, but worth it for the people that actually take the time to READ my stuff.

I do find that my drawing gets more attention then my writing, and mentally this has cause me a lot of problems. It gets frustrating, to a degree that it makes you actually HATE drawing. A lot of amount of work goes into both forms of expression, but reading someone's writing is 'work' for some people it's not an issue of having the free time. I mean there are plenty of people I know that will go on and on and on about how bored they are and how there's nothing for them to do, and if you mention reading a chapter or two they're complain about it like you're asking them to do one of the most difficult things in the world. People will also come up with many excuses. The most popular excuses given to me being "I'm waiting for the manga / comic book pages to be done before I read it." and the even more popular "I'm waiting for it to get published before I read it."

The most frustrating indecent that I encounter with my drawing vs. writing issue was after trying for years to get someone to read my scripts, finally hearing the "I'm waiting for the manga / comic book version to be done before I read it." I decided to sketch about 20 pages up, and then show them to people to see what their responses were. Writing, art, layout ANYTHING wise. The drawing were sketchy, not my best work, and some pages got really sloppy depending on how tired my arm was from drawing that day (I was more looking to see how well people responded to the story then the art) and the main response I got was "The drawings look really good!!" When I ask what they thought about the story their response was. "I didn't read anything, I just looked at the pictures." I mean, this was a lot of work for me, and even after all them saying that they're only read it if it's been drawn out, when that DID happen they couldn't even do that. =/

Tommy, I know what you mean. Only one of my stories on DA really ever received any comments. I guess it's understandable as they have to invest a lot of time into reading it (people do tend to glance when on-line) where as, as you say, artworks are more immediate. I've not added any of my writing here for that reason (and I'm editing it happy.gif ).

However, it's not only writing. My artworks haven't received that many comments either....sad.gif

I'm a writer as well. It is a bit disappointing that people will over look a great piece of art just because it is in written form. Still it seems that there are a fair few writers here, all of which I will be happy to read and review for when I have a moment or two. I like to give detailed reviews whenever possible so it may take some time.

I would also be interested in a writing group. I think it would be fun to have something like prompt contests or something like that. I have seen a couple on Live journal. A word or phrase is used as a common prompt that must be used in everyone's submission. Its interesting to see the different takes each writer gives on a common prompt. smile.gif

Yes, I do feel that the Groups function will definitely bring a little more activity to the Literature, but also bring more recognition to the authors within the group too, In order for Literature to kick off at Artician - Like any other genre really, It takes users to be active for quite a lot of time, which will then be noticed by lurkers that are hesitant to join Artician who are writers, they will think these guys are doing good -- I shall join too.

It basically needs word of mouth, and activity. In which, if you guys need any help please don't hesitate to get in touch, ill do my hardest to get this section up and going.
Though I must say, although I was born and raised in England, my grammar/punctuation is not on good terms, so don't expect me to write poems you devils! tongue.gif

Best Regards,

PS; Re-reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows lately, it just reminds me of when I was a kid and first introduced to Harry Potter, and actually grew up with the characters etc. Apart from HP back in the day, I read nothing else. So it introduced me to this kind of thing, I have only really read HP and "A series of unfortunate events" when I was a youth, I feel that with HP most specially, why it has done so well is that, nearly every kid has imagined at one stage in his/her life that "What would it feel like to be a Wizard/Witch", and HP fits that imagination very very well. Kudos to JK Rowling smile.gif

I made a board in the suggestions a couple of days ago to have a separate literature feature, but I didn't think about the forums. I completely understand, even though I am more of an artist than a writer- but I am both. On this account I've posted my best work from both of my DA accounts- and I don't think I've gotten ANY comments or at least critiques on my written work unless it was a friend (usually I ask them to look at it). Although my artwork isn't popular either, I can't imagine how difficult it would be to be only a writer on a site like this or DA. Pretty much the only thing out there that's somewhat successful is fanfic.net, but there really isn't a good way to express individuality, novelty, and talent in writing, at least not easily.

Agreed; people looking at art sites like this expect visual art, and that's something easy to glance at. On a primarily visual site like this, something that requires the kind of in-depth look written work demands simply isn't that appealing. That's the advantage of fanfic, that it comes with an established audience, as opposed to original work from an unknown author.

On the subject of you personally Luna-Cast, I looked at your gallery; I didn't post anything though. Why? Because for one thing, you've posted the first three chapters of a series of novels: seeing how many times I've had authors drop projects like that midway through, I'm a little hesitant to start reading something that I'm not sure will ever be finished. If you really want feedback, it's a lot easier to review a complete work as opposed to a part of a series, you know?

And as for your poem, well, I just don't get poetry honestly. One of the few parts of literature I consistently fail. smile.gif

Artician is looking for Literature orientated scouts, Digital Art orientated, Web Design orientated etc, so that we can actually have people focus on individual category's, the only real reason as to why literature hasn't been featured here as much as say website design and digital art, is solely because we do not have people who are savvy on the whole poem and story kind of genre smile.gif.

So why not go along and apply to be a scout staff member: http://www.artician.com/apply/scouts
