I can somewhat see your point on the comment system. Alot of it, in my opinion, is deprogramming yourself from dA.
If I'm to argue for a minute: having to come to people's pages to return comment does two things that will never happen on dA....
1) You don't spend the entirety of your experience here living in the subcutaneous confines of your message center.
Can't say how boring it is to stay on the same page for hours trying to catch up with people's comments and replies. Especially when the numbers are in the hundreds. Yikes.
2) Because of it, You actually get to SEE people's pages.
This is another thing I started to be very regretful of over there. I was spending so much time in my message center, I became wholly dependent on journals to alert me to new CSS's, Modules, Status, New Friends, or any other kind of change you can only see by visiting someone else's page.
Here... I'm forced to constantly move. Constantly see and experience.... giving me a very visceral, hands-on web experience in regards to my friends. It keeps me in the habit of going to the front page to see the features, because I'm going there anyway to see what's new with my friends.
Is it a little less convenient? Maybe. But I've had far more adventures, inspirations, and interesting thoughts while walking to the store for a can of soda, than simply opening the min-fridge in my room.
