One Piece ( Wan Piisu?) is a Japanese shnen manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Weekly Shnen Jump since August 4, 1997; the individual chapters are being published in tankbon volumes by Shueisha, with the first released on December 24, 1997, and the 67th volume released as of August 2012. One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young man whose body gains the properties of rubber after inadvertently eating a devils fruit, and his diverse crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy explores the ocean in search of the world's ultimate treasure known as the One Piece and to become the next Pirate King. Along his journey, Luffy makes several friends and battles a wide variety of villains, many of whom try to kill the Straw Hats.

Est entrada en mi blog no solo es para dar un vistazo interno al comic BAR, sino tambin para celebrar que este junto con el comic TAXI ganaron como mejor Comic en el concurso de arte secuencial en el Comic Party 2009 Costa Rica.

Ahora si, al comic, la idea no era solamente darle cierta continuidad a la historia de TAXI que narra una pequea aventura en la vida de Juan el taxista (por cierto hasta el Comic Bar se sabe que el taxista se llama Juan), tambin quera hacer un comic con ms historia, ms personajes y un final ms impactante, creo que logr todos esos puntos con el comic BAR.

La esttica de la historieta tambin est aumentada, esto me llevo a tener que trabajar ms en lo que es el dibujo en tintas y en la parte de pintado con photoshop, los grises.

La historia cuenta como una muchacha que va a una cita a ciegas la cambian o le "dan vuelta" por otra muchacha que aparece en el bar, ella (la que le dieron vuelta) decide irse del bar, llama a su amigo Juan para que la lleve a su casa y de camino le cuenta lo sucedido, algo simple, pero que funciona para contar algo muy normal que tiene ciertas pistas para el que lee de que no es del todo una historia normal.

Primero entra "La India" (as le vamos a llamar por ahora), uno de los personajes ms difciles que he dibujado, siempre trato de que todas las mujeres que dibujo sean muy bonitas, pero en este caso La India es una mujer extica y casi irresistible para los ojos de los hombres, y como para gustos colores, de fijo ms de uno me va a decir que no le gusta tanto, pero la idea era lograr un personaje que definitivamente es sexy.

El recurso que utilic aqu fue hacer que una mujer decribiera lo bonita que era la otra mujer que entra por la puerta, esto tiene un doble efecto, primero que cuando una mujer describe lo bonita que es otra mujer, esto suena mas sincero, muchos maes simplemente dicen lo bien que esta el cuerpo, pero las mujeres se fijan en esos detalles, como que tan plano est el abdomen, que tan tonificadas estan las piernas, si el pelo est bien peinado y planchado y si los zapatos van con el vestido, generalmente cuando una mujer reconoce la belleza de otra mujer que ella est viendo, ese reconocimiento es mucho mas sincero, ahora en este caso, la mujer que decribe no solo vio entrar a esta India, sino que le dieron vuelta con la India, que an as no la describa de mala manera asegura que de verdad el personaje era muy atractivo.

Una de las cosas que quera resaltar de la India aparte de atractivo fsico, es sus ojos, unos ojos casi sobrenaturales, con un color extrao y una pupila muy pequea, casi como ojos de algn depredador, como una serpiente que hechiza con su mirada, hice mucho nfasis en la mirada de La India.

La gente cuando ve los paisajes urbanos del comic, reconoce que San Jos no tiene esos edificios tan grandes no se ve tan desarrollada, aunque se identifican con las calles llenas de huecos, esto es porque mi San Jos es en un tiempo prximo, donde Costa Rica logra vencer los baches econmicos y se proyecta como un pas mas desarrollado, pero siempre con huecos en las calles eso va a ser siempre igual.

Por eso sus personajes, con sus formas de vestir, de hablar, nos parecen comunes pero an as pertenecen a una Costa Rica que queremos, ms sobresaliente, pero con el desarrollo vienen otros problemas que talvs en el futuro pueda abarcar con las Historias Urbanas.

Esta pgina me gusta en especial manera, porque me recuerda a antiguos comics que desarroll junto con un gran guionista Carlos Orozco donde en muchas escenas preferamos que las imgenes por si solas cuenten la historia y aqu hay varias pistas de que algo va a pasar, primero y ms evidente es el personaje recurrente del gato, que parece salir en el comic antes de momentos importantes, el gato se asusta porqu?, luego si se fijan hay un filtro que le aade un ruido blanco a la imagen, como cuando un canal de TV no se sintoniza bien o cuando una cmara de video se expone a una zona de alta electricidad esttica, es sublime el efecto, pero levanta la tensin algo est a punto de suceder.

La idea siempre es hacer un final interesante, algo que explique porqu se estaba contando esta historia y que de razn al personaje de La india.

Despus de esta pgina, queda claro que la india era la Tzegua.

Tzegua?, No era La SEGUA?, pues si y no.

Siempre he querido hacer una historia con semejante personaje del folklore costarricense y centroamericano, as que me puse a investigar sobre este personaje, muchos autores han escrito novelas, cuentos, hasta obras de teatro y pelculas, entre todas estas variables del personaje y su nombre hubo una variable que me llam la atencin, en algunos pases le llaman "La Tzegua", esto me lleva a pensar que el nombre tiene una raz indgena y esta procedencia del nombre defini totalmente al personaje, siempre la describen como una mujer muy bonita, en algunos casos se transforma en otros esta de espaldas y luego muestra su rostro horrible, pero en ningn caso describen su etnia, quise que mi Tzegua fuera una India, indgena o aborigen, pero con una belleza sobrenatural, hay un par de detalles que un ojo educado puede percibir.

Los indgenas Huetares del valle central, eran entre muchas cosas, muy violentos, a veces libraban guerras entre tribus, cuando un hombre mataba a otro hombre en un combate, el vencedor se tatuaba una mancha en los hombros, espalda o pecho que tenia una semejanza a las manchas del Jaguar, animal venerado como un dios y respetado porque la cantidad de manchas que una persona tuviese significaba la cantidad de muertes que habia provocado, siendo as el jaguar el ms asesino de todos.

La Tzegua muestra estas marcas indgenas cuando se transforma, ella es una Indgena de procedencia Huetar y ha matado muchos hombres.

En lo personal este comic lo considero como el mejor que he hecho por mi propia cuenta, pero nunca me imagine que iba a gustar tanto, talves porque simplemente quise rendir un homenaje a un personaje por el cual siento un gran respeto, si los artistas respetan a sus personajes, estos personajes muchas veces devuelven el favor, extrao pero as lo creo.

Para la prxima quiero ahondar ms en el personaje de Juan, quien hasta ahora a pesar de ser el eje central de las historias, no se sabe nada de el ms que es un taxista nocturno, quiero demostrar parte de su pasado y explicar porqu es un taxista, mejor dicho porque ya no es lo que era antes.

Esa historia talves tenga que contarla en unas 4 o 5 entregas diferentes y si tengo suerte, pueda rendirle homenaje a otros personajes del folklore costarricense.

I will step away from the Crimson Shadows comic to talk about the creation of the Urban Legend short story comic.

This comic I have made it with the propose of giving it away free for anybody who wants to have it or read it, its a free online comic in way of speak.

The story behind this comic is a urban legend that some taxi drivers tell in Costa Rica.

Is one of those stories that become folklore in a culture, must of this kind of spooky tales are about some moral lesson, in this case a missing woman.

The taxi driver is working late at night, since the night hasn't been very productive he is about to go home, then he finds this woman in the road and take her home.

At arrival the woman let the taxi driver know that she doesn't have money to pay, but her father (or other close relative) lives near (or next to) her house, and that the relative is willing to pay for her taxi fee.

The taxi driver ring the bell and the relative shows up, after a short explanation from the taxi driver, the relative starts to cry and tells the taxi driver that the woman is long dead and its not the first time she takes a taxi ride home, after dead.

I think this is a magnificent story because in so little tells so much, you can almost imagine the story of this woman that never came home, end dead somewhere but her ghost is still looking to get home.

The fact that she shows up in the street late at night gives an insight on the hour of decease of the woman, so she must have been late at night in the street and something wrong happens to her.

There is a moral message to this story, people who happens to be vulnerable shouldn't be alone in the street in the night, and there are so many stories of this kind in costarican folklore.

Why the taxi drivers tell this story? maybe because they have really seen people disappear, but in a more real way.

They see this guy who happens to party too much too hard, he takes this guy home or to the bar, but suddenly they see this guy going into crack and loosing his job, later they see the same guy been a crack addict asking for money in the street.

This guy has disappear to his family, to his friends, to society, the taxi driver has seen him disappear, he may speak to him from time to time, but is no longer the same guy who happens to party too much, its now somebody else.

And they see those changes, all those people disappear in the streets, is almost paranormal the way the city change some people.

In that spirit I think this urban legend has born, there are so many dangers and some taxi drivers care about the people they transport to place to place, its no surprise to me that, in a way of warning, this story is told by taxi drivers.

The taxi driver character for this comic speaks just as how people in Costa Rica speaks, so is slang, even for people that speak spanish some words or modes will sound a little off, but I wanted the character to have that voice from the street that would make him more real.

Some thing that I hate when I read a comic, specially if is done here in Costa Rica, is that must of characters speaks the way some people speaks in TV and that's not the way normal people speaks.

If I drop a valuable object by accident to the ground I would not say:

- By heavens! I just drop this valuable object to the ground!

Its most likely that I would say:

- Shit! I fucked it up again!

Its not proper but, probably true.

So besides telling a story about a urban legend that taxi drivers tell here in Costa Rica, this comic is kind of an exercise on how to make a character speaks like real people do.

In the process, people who reads the comic actually like the character and have asked me to make another chapter, and there are lots of characters that I can take from costarican folklore and put into that taxi cab for a ride.

I'm actually planing the next ride in this taxi driver story.

Crimson Shadows | Vampire Hunter Medea by tenshin78

With Medea I start to show the secondary characters, somehow they are there to make the principal characters looks good.

This is not a tutorial, but a way to show how I approach to make a comic and share the final result to all who want to see it.

But first before describing Medea, which as the title says is a Vampire Hunter, lets describe what is a Vampyre in the Crimson Shadows universe, lets study the prey.

What is a Vampyre? besides the obvious fact that are a fantasy being that feeds on blood to survive there are characteristics of these Vampyres that they share with the classic vampires that we know, some others that not.

I like to think on these Vampyres as some kind of Feline people, a Feline can jump high, fall from high, has improved reflexes and improved strength to maintain all the other abilities.

So these Vampyres are faster than the average human, they have better reflexes and higher strength.

- "But wait a second, I know people like that".

Yeah, me too, Martial Artists. A average Vampire would be like a regular human martial artist, that by his training has learn to have better reflexes, to move faster and to improve his strength.

I have trained martial arts for several years and in all that time I learned a important lesson:

In a real fight, a person with no martial arts training at all, has NO chance to win against a person trained in martial arts.

- "Yeah but the person with no training can hit a lucky punch or the martial artist, can slip and fall!"

I heard a lot of possible scenarios but I have seen it a lot of times, the martial artist never looses, why? because he is trained not to loose.

Martial means War, so the Martial Arts are the Arts of War, and war is about defeat your enemies. A martial artist will be aware of the environment, in fact he will use the environment in his favor, he will have an eye on that door, on that close wall, on the slippery floor, he will have other eye on the friends of his opponent who could joint the fight to beat him, so he have in mind that there is a chair next to him that he can use as a weapon.

He is trained to get relaxed and thoughtful at the moment of fight, his senses are sharp and his brain is working on a single objective, win. That the martial artist has gained through hard training.

So, that said (and I think I went too long on the martial arts stuff), a fight of a regular human against a regular Vampyre will end almost always the same way, the Vampyre wins.

- "And what will happen if a highly trained in martial arts human fights against a average non trained vampyre?"

Then we will have a nice fight

- "Ok, I get it, now... What will happen if a highly trained Vampyre fights a highly trained human???"

The human will lost in a horrible way, and that's what the Crimson Shadows team of Assasins are, a team of Vampyres, highly trained in the arts of war.

Vampyres are immune to sunlight, they don't melt or set on fire, they just gets a little sleepy as the day goes forward, vampyres are night animals, like cats, your cat doesn't melt on the sunlight, cats can even hunt in the middle of the day, same for vampyres, they just prefers the night for all activities.

So what does the sunlight to vampyres? the same moonlight do to you, nothing.

- And what about crucifixes, silver bullets, blessed water?

Some vampyres can use crucifixes the same way Madonna did in the 80s, can take silver bullets or any other bullet as long as the damage doesn't get too massive, then they will have to feed or die and they can drink blessed water with no problem.

You may now be thinking that the career as a Vampyre Hunter is a short and painful one, and it is.

So a person doesn't became a Vampyre hunter just like that, that person should have something that gives some edge in the fights, some enhancement.

Medea was a top notch special forces cop, she is trained on the martial arts, on all kinds, she was part of a group specialized on drug fight, she arrested many drug dealers and believe me, on that island the outlaws are something to think about before you want to cross them, even if you are a Law Enforcer.

She achieved the status of Cop Hero, con decorated by the King Harald Magnuson in person, given a Medallion, a artifact made by the king himself that makes here faster (even faster than a Vampyre), so she can keep fighting the outlaws. That was a tremendous gift, but she was in all the media and recognized as a hero, so the king favors Medea to improve his image.

But crossing the mafia was not a good idea, and even less when she gets too close to Vampyre mafia, that was something outside King Magnuson kingdom, and she paid, with the must precious to her, all her family, dead.

She had the training, she had that little something that can give her the edge against any Vampyre, and now she is crazy, literally.

She quited the Law Enforcers, became a high profile mercenary, her contracts are few and very profitable, so money is not a problem to her and she have plenty of time to hunt Vampyres, there is no stopping to Medea, she just want all of them dead.

Her outfit is a mourning dress, memento of her death family.

As a wink to Orange Clockwork, she use the hat and eye make up, also I added a make up tear on her right eye, meaning that her quest for revenge over all vampyre beings is something moved by suffering and violence.

She is reckless and uses whatever she can to kill her enemies, she uses: gun fire, grenades, napalm bombs, blades and knifes.

Her Zodiac sign is Gemini.

Crimson Shadows, Shanx by tenshin78

Create characters is my passion, I can draw characters all day, designing new ones or making old ones better or just in a new pose or outfit.

That said, there are some characters that you feel more happy to do, and you can tell which artists love which characters with a single look at how cool they look, for example the Batman from Kelly Jones.

Kelly Jones draws Batman more like a specter with a ethereal cape that gets bigger when he is flying and his figure is also bigger and more menacing when facing enemies or scaring other people. That shows that he loves to make this character and have fun drawing it.

I have came up with this design, for Shanx the Asian member for the Crimson Shadows and I love this one, I think there would be a lot of fun drawing her, specially cause her very long and fit legs would make the character very dynamic, with long straight almost like pins hair that would have that float with the wind kind of look.

She is very serious, so probably would have almost the same face on every panel, but that makes the character very mysterious (and makes me more creative because I have to found a way to make her expressions show somehow).

Her dress is also dynamic with all that fabric in front and behind in the middle of her legs, if she jumps, kicks or just walks that would give movement to the character (that's why must comic heroes have capes in the begging).

Shanx prefers to use explosives to kill her victims with clock precision, but if things gets close and personal, she is a remarkable martial arts fighter and have a pair of gauntlets with hidden blades to support her in the fights.

She likes to play Cello and Piano, her zodiac sign is Pisces.

If you have taken your time to read my previous posts, then you would guess the her name is after an ancient Chinese city destroyed by an asteroid.

Next, I will take a step away and show you another comic I have done, a short story.

Crimson Shadows, Agaparthea by tenshin78

Agaparthea is an ancient middle eastern city, that is believed was destroyed by an asteroid.

That's the code name for this member of the Crimson Shadows.

Agaparthea has been through extensive combat and warfare training, and showed lots of creativity with martial arts, to the point that she invented a custom Martial Art that blends her use of scythes with Belly Dance, the result is an unorthodox fight style, hard to read or time, with a lot of movement, like Capoeira and exquisite to behold.

Some think that Agaparthea has a crush with Gomorra, cause her loyalty to her goes beyond all other members, some say she is just too loyal.

As you have guessed her hobbie is Belly Dance, but she is considered very beautiful even for Vampyre standards, Agaparthea has been a fashion model for catwalks in the underworld (Yes, vampyres have designers for clothing).

Her zodiac sign is Cancer.

Making interesting characters is not just about to draw them nicely, that is to me the 20%, the other 80% is personality, if you can get to design very well the characters personality, then it will be more easy to know how they will act, if is going to be a fight between two characters for having different opinions or if other characters will join in friendship for compatibility.

The idea of this Crimson Shadows is not just make a bunch of hot chicks that kick serious ass (and is going to be a lot of that), but to try to express the dynamics that happen from the fact of working as a team in a group with different people with same agenda.

From now on I will talk about the universe in this comic, more a micro universe, because is just a Island that happens to be in the middle of the Atlantic, think Morrowind, but on earth and with a multicultural city like Sao Pablo or New York (but a lot warmer) that has people from all over the world and a peculiar population formed by humans, elfs, dwarfs, werewolfs, vampyres and other things not so easily classifiable.

From where this island is coming? there is a explanation for this but in time I will make it clear, I think the best place to explain it is in the comic itself.

For now just have that picture in mind of a Island with such a population in our world, that has been there for a couple of centuries and how this could impact other countries and people living overseas.

Will people be afraid of this island? I think yes, there can be paranoia about the people who lives there.

What kind of people would choose to live in a place like that? I think people with power that works and live beyond the law, is like a perfect place for drug dealers, murderers, in general bad people, people who is running from the law from any country that they lived in.

So is not a nice place to hang out? The island is big, and there is a lot of people who lives there, was born there and is the only place that they know, like Frank Miller's Sin City, that was a nasty place, but was so full of people, like a lot of nasty places on this planet.

Why having such a nasty place? Because is perfect to make a lot of histories and characters, that can be all over the top and beliable at the same time, lets say that there is a Russian Vampiress that her work is to be a Assasin working for the King of the Vampyres on that island, that totally can happen.

Primorye, Name after a Russian town destroyed by a Asteroid, thats not her real name, but thats her code name on the Crimson Shadows.

She have extensive military training, is very proficient in the use of guns of any kind, but she likes her pair of Makarov Pistols the must.

As a melee weapon she uses a Metallic Whip.

She is self confident and arrogant, sometimes even way to critic to other people, but she is as good as a killer as the other members of the team.

She likes to do Oil Painting in her free time, she prefers the Renascence period as theme for her paintings.

She is Virgo.

Over the years I have worked on Graphic Design and Web Design, now Im a Web Developer, each time I step up in my career it seems that the artistry level that I have to input into my work on daily basis is less.

So I still have to make all the creativity to flow from any channel that I have at hand, for example my desk is like a little drawing study that has nothing to do with Web Pages, CSS, HTML and JavaScritp.

The need to do something is there, but has to be something cool that I like, not just something to like to other people (that's my job!), but something that I would feel happy to do it on my spare time.

After making a whole set of hot chicks wallpapers (that you can check on my profile), I have realize that I can make a lot of drawing and painting on my spare time all I need is a story, characters and the will to do it.

Crimson Shadows is on the making!

I have worked as a comic artist before, not exactly worked, more of a hobbie, since I never get any money from it but still love any minute in the making of a comic, with my old friend Carlos Orozco who happens to be a excellent writer I have learned a lot of character creation and how to make a descent story, so I just grab a couple of our best designed characters (like from 10 years ago) and revamp them, make them more international and revive that universe into a new series of comics that I will share though internet just for the fun of it.

The Crimson Shadows is a group of 4 Vampyresses that work for the King of the vampyres ( yes with "Y" ) , the comic will narrate the adventures of these vampyres and how they accomplish the assassinations for the King.

Obviously things will not be as simple as it seems but I will get into details later, for now, the first Character:

Gomorra:

Named after the ancient city destroyed by a asteroid (in this universe people know that was God mighty fury in the shape of a Asteroid that destroys the city).

She has been soldier for the Vampyre Army, scaled up in ranks until become one of the must feared elite soldiers, she was granted the task of forming a group of assassins formed by elite soldiers handpicked by the King.

Gomorra has a identical twin sister named Eden that has no knowledge of warfare or combat.

In her free time Gomorra practices Mix Martial Arts and Polygon Shooting, she is openly gay but doesn't sustain a formal relation with any of her girlfriends.

When she is not in a Assassination mission or training, she is also Personal trainer in the arts of war and combat of the King's Son.

Her Zodiacal sign is Leo.

Above all, I'm just looking for discussion. I want to know if the movie is just as epic and amazing as the comic. I've heard some mixed reviews, and I'd like to know what you think.

Sadly, I got my hands on the book this weekend, but keep getting distracted from reading. I'm not quite finished yet, but almost there. And I'm completely hooked!

Rorschach, mostly. The controversy and mystery surrounding the man is intriguing. =)

Alright, I guess that's it for now. Just looking for some people to talk with. Such is my nature.

I am going to design a few characters for a digital comic book called bokasmo

it is all black and white line art to start, inked first basically and then perhaps color ... perhaps
