I have been searching for the most strong hearted female role model as inspiration for my very own graphic novel, "Ranao". Yet time immemorial, women were depicted both in literature and cinema as doe eyed, helpless lot that needs the love and company of their male counterparts.

For many years, centuries even, the submissive female image has plagued audiences that it was put as "standard". There were no movies or comic books that showed women as independent individuals amidst the rise of "so-called" hard hitting female roles like Wonder Woman, Powergirl, even the supposedly beautiful Starfire of the "Teen Titans" seems could not endure life without Robin.

"Archie Comics" was the bane of school day machismo; As far as i could understand, Betty and veronica seems to be in a perpetual "rivalry" for the affection of "Archie" so I avoid even looking at these.

"Disney Princesses" were the epitome of "anti-liberalism" spawned by Christian belief systems and assimilated into cultureI was disappointed at "The Little Mermaid" the mystery of it all seems to fall down to her Prince Eric, not at the Mermaid!

Anime females were the worst!...I've seen a supposedly powerful "Sailor Moon", cry herself silly over a skinny, tuxedo wearing bastard called Mamuro. Jun Shiratori of "Gatchaman" yep, the sexy pantie fetish icon for many years was so infatuated by that spoiled brat, domineering Ken, even to the point of letting that gook slap her in one episode. Macross just pulled female characters down the dirt and let them wallow in utter filth via their characters Misa Hayase and Minmei Lin; both compete for the love and affections of Hikaru Ichijoe (Rick Hunter in Robotech) a clue-less, annoyed guy pilot. This trend goes even to newer anime series like this "Kiss X Kiss" crap and those like it. But I must admit, Hayao Miyazaki's" Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" gave me my first inspiration. Still, I must need other sources.

But then, just recently, I've seen a new animated movie that touches my proverbial "heart strings!"

"Brave" (The Bear and the Bow) was shown here in the Philippines. This new Pixar animation was so fresh that I've seen to it to get a seat: The main hero was a fiery teenage Celtic Scottish Princess named Merida of the" Clan of Dunbroch" she was determined to forge her own path and rebelled against tradition. Her main nemesis was her mother, Queen Elinore who believes, Merida must be "princess-like"wear dresses, be dainty and prepare herself for a "happily ever after" wedding with some prince. But Merida likes to fire arrows, climb steep rocks, tumble around and ride her horse into the sunset. "Brave" was the PERFECT stimulation ; It has all the elements paralleling to my "Ranao" graphic novel, they both got a headstrong princess, a warrior king father, a culture and an impeding disaster brought about by the main character herself.

The movie received no positive or negative reviews here in the Philippines as if it was ignored by most. And I'm not surprised at all since Filipinos are patriarchal in nature and might even find the movie so unfitting. This is evident on the animated movie "Urduja" were a supposedly strong willed warrior princess of Pangasinan was swept up her feet by a Chinese hero where she SHOULD be beheading these "barbarians" from the East. They took Urduja and turned her into a Picahontas wannabe.

Back to "Brave," then, I found out that even there in the U.S. some critics claimed that "Brave" has lesbian undertones and a lesbian Princess. I detest these criticsSurely, you can't call a girl "Lesbian" just because she loves to shoot arrows, climb rocks and has no affection for any of the Lords' sons who competes for her handA Tomboy maybe but not a lesbian.

1. "Merida is a lesbian!" - Because she's a rough and tumble girl who likes archery, and isn't interested in boys. I do NOT get why people keep bringing up her lack of interest in the Lords' sons when it was very clear that she wasn't interested in them because she didn't want to be forced to marry. You tell most girls at 14 that they have to pick a husband for the rest of their life from three guys they barely know, they're going to be defiant as well! That doesn't mean they're all queer, it just means they don't want to do something you're forcing upon them!

2. "Warrior princesses are only fighting older female antagonists these days, and Merida is one of them!" There are two older female characters in this movie, yes, but they are not antagonistic.

The first is Queen Elinor (voiced by Emma Thompson). She is Merida's mother as well as her teacher in all things royal. She is teaching Merida how to be a ruler, but Merida isn't interested. They argue constantly through the first act, but it's very clear that Elinor does what she does out of motherly love and regrets the mistakes she makes. Merida realizes her mistakes as well and uses her mother's teachings in her own way to placate the Lords. So much of their journey in the film is about the two of them learning how to give and take. Merida learns from her mother, but Elinor learns just as much from her as well.

The other is the Witch (played by Julie Walters). While she provides the curse that sets the plot of the film in motion after the games, the Witch isn't in the film for very long and she's very much a businesswoman in the whole ordeal. She's not good or bad. She's just a woman leading a quiet life making woodcarvings and spells in the middle of the woods. She doesn't go into battle or try to antagonize Merida and Elinor. She gives Merida the curse and the way to reverse it.

3. "Why does it have to be about women?" Female relationships are so rare in children's entertainment, be they friendships or parental. Parents are often pushed to the side by the narrative, and if there's a female character in there, it's usually just as a side character that one character might have a crush on. And if there's more than one female character, they're often antagonistic towards each other or don't even interact in the slightest. When there are positive female relationships, though, the movies are dismissed or the relationships are overlooked. Because positive mother and daughter relationships are so rare in media, let alone children's entertainment. We need Elinor and Merida to show that mothers and daughters are allowed to get along and be friends. We need Elinor and Merida to show that women can take the same journeys that men do in media and have positive experiences from it. Brave has to be about women in order to show that we are not just obsessed with romance.

4. "The movie was formulaic!" Yeah, and so is every other major motion picture release like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. The only thing that makes Brave any different is that it's Scottish and features a young woman going on the hero's journey and not a young man.

5. The male characters were just plot devices! and no serious male role models!" Women in media are constantly reduced to plot devices or nothing but infatuated fools longing for the love of the male hero like in the case of most Japanese anime like "Macross" (In this series, the women here are reduced to Zombies and simpletons each competing for the affections of the male role guy.)

In "Brave" Fergus the Bear King is a good father who only wants the best for his daughter and supports her choices in life. He got hotheaded at one point and didn't listen to the warnings his daughter gave him, but even his anger was driven by a love for his family. How is THAT not role model worthy?

Superman Vs Jedi? (A second look) by Buddy

Last Oct. 31st, "Inferno Crusher Factory" artist meeting held at Starbuck's Trinoma's roof deck, I've heard something about a "Superman Vs Jedi".

I've checked it out immediately and found this site :

http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/arts/comic-books/superman-vs1.htm

The talks goes something like this:"Jedi's have great respect for all life forms, so they will never use a lightsaber against Superman."

There were other reasons in this site that I never bothered to read, what's the use since the whole shebang seems too much in favor of Superman...it is so pointless and hogwashed. Nothing can penetrate Superman's skin...much less something like a lightsaber! The site sealed the "score" and Superman wins by default...Hooohum!

I find this site and the explanations unfair, biased and "partisan". Perhaps, it need an "objectively" fair opinion which I would like to express: What would REALLY happen if the Last Son of Krypton had an unpleasant collision course with a Jedi Knight?

In the DC universe, Kal-El, son of a Kryptonian scientist/ambassador Jor-El, was sent to earth to escape the destruction of the planet Krypton. kal-El was adopted by Martha and Jonathan Kent and was given a name "Clark".

Clark Kent grew to manhood and because of the yellow sun, receives the abilities far more powerful than any human.

Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and can fly through the heavens, impenetrable skin, can change the course of mighty rivers, can bend steel in his bare hands, advance senses and perceptions, can see through solid walls and emits "heat-vision".

Weakened only by Kryptonite, he is almost indestructible!

Good looks, all brawn, aggressive and arrogant attitudes, he is an "almost" god known to many as SUPERMAN; the Last Son of Krypton, the Man of Steel, The man of Tomorrow!

Now, in Gorge Lucas' universe, a long time ago in a galaxy millions of light years away; a legendary "Old Republic" was once under the wise rule of an intergalactic senate and under the protection from the mysterious order of the Jedi Knights!

Guardians of Peace and Justice for a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights follows a path of strict discipline and utmost dedication.Making them the most powerful and respected force in the galaxy.

Their skills and Philosophy rest solely in the recognition of an encompassing mystical energy called "The Force".

While it was never properly explained, The Force is generated by living things and only certain individuals can recognize it. The Force directs people's actions yet obeys their commands and it's knowledge and manipulation is what gives a Jedi Knight his or her powers.

A Jedi Knight can use the Force against feeble minded antagonists, imposing the Jedi's will and defeat an adversary, even without using his or her lightsaber.

There are too many Jedi Knights to begin with, but I would like to pick one - Old Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi (played by the late Sir Alec Guinness.)

He was once General Obi-Wan Kenobi who fought the "Clone Wars" The last and the greatest of all the Jedi Knights ( this according to Lord Darth Vader from the book "STAR WARS: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker" written by Gorge Lucas.)

I firmly believe old Ben Kenobi is a worthy adversary against Superman!

Would the so-called "Man of Steel" would pounce on a frail-looking "monk"?...Does he had the nerve to beat a senior "hermit" into a pulp?

On the other hand, old Ben Kenobi can easily use "The Force" against the Last Son of Krypton since none of Superman's aforementioned super skills include "High intellectual capacity". This is noticeable in most Superman comics where Lex Luthor, his arch nemesis, often dupes Superman in the first scenes.

I firmly believe a true Jedi will never waste his or her time striking Superman with a lightsaber...But I do believe a true Jedi will only make use of simple mind tricks to lead the so-called "Man of Tomorrow" into dismay, tribulations and irrevocable ruin!

"The Force has a strong influence over the weak-minded" - Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi

Watching mind movies free at home can change from being a mediocre activity into something fun and interesting. The idea is to know what to do and how plan for it. If you want, you can choose having some friends over or catching a movie with your favorite relatives.

If you are watching the movie with other people, then you can ask them to come with what they have so that you can all select mind movies free to enjoy. They might have something more interesting than you want to them to watch. It is a good idea to compare what is available. Watching what other people recommend can be an enriching experience.

If you are happy and bubbly, consider getting mind movies free that is sure to enhance this feeling. This ensures that you enjoy your experience even better. In the event that you are not experiencing a positive mood, make sure to select something that is sure to make you feel just want you want.

By selecting something to watch wisely, you can enhance such feelings as you like. It is one of the best ways to enjoy different movies as they are created to enhance certain moods and feelings. If you are watching a film with a loved one, you can select a romantic movie as it helps to tighten your bond or make you feel good about yourselves.

There are other ways to enjoy a film which easily help you have an even better time. Different themes are celebrated during different times of the year. If you want to be in the mood of what is happening around you, then take the time to have a mind movies free session with a film representing that theme. A romantic movie can be an ideal thing to watch around Valentine season.

As you prepare for the movie, do not forget to have some snacks ready. A good idea is to have something that is easy to eat and enjoy. Some junk or fast food can work well as they are always very easy to prepare and eat. They are also less messy which means less time cleaning up after watching the movie.

Before the movie starts, make sure you have all exchanged greetings. Let everyone finish what they have to say before the movie begins. This allows you to concentrate on the movie which makes for a better experience. You should all agree not to talk or tell stories during the movie.

Make sure that all your cell phones are turned off and you can also dim the lights or switch them off all together. It helps to create a nice experience and you are sure to have a great time this way as you enjoy a mind movies free session at home.

Tonight I watched the movie Legion, and I must say that I enjoyed it. The visual effects were stunning, and the story was pretty good too, though I feel it lacked some important details. I'm pretty satisfied with the cast overall, though at times the scripting seemed a bit goofy. It sure left me with a revived love for things with wings, though. I expect there will be more angelic beings in my future drawings.

John Legend Will Flex His Sports Knowledge As ESPN 'Mike And Mike' Cohost by slogis

John Legend is no stranger to the sports world. He sang at the Bilal A Love for Sale Super Bowl, performed at WrestleMania and put synchronized swimmers in the "Green Light" video. But Friday morning, one of music's biggest stars will have his sports knowledge and passion tested when he Radiohead In Rainbows co-hosts ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike in the Morning." He will sit in the seat normally taken up by former NFL All-Pro Mike Golic and will trade trivia and opinions with Mike Greenberg. It's an early show the party kicks off at The Killers Day and Age 6 a.m. but it'll be worth hearing Legend's insights on the morning's topics, which will probably include Various Artists The Darjeeling limited OST the results of tonight's NBA Finals game, the Major League Baseball draft and the upcoming NFL season. It's unlikely that Legend will attempt to talk while filling his mouth with donuts, but hey, you Rihanna Dont Stop the Music never know.

'Michael Jackson's This Is It' Has Stiff Competition In Best Rock Doc Race by slogis

At this stage, a clearer picture is coming together about "Michael Jackson's This Is It." Using a combination of rehearsals, fly-on-the-wall meetings and proper performances, it shows the once-unstoppable pop star gearing up for his big career comeback using some of his most beloved hits (and sending a message about hope and humanity in the process).

A great music doc is made up of a combination of signature moments, incredible performances and an ineffable something that can give the fan sitting on the couch that same twinge of electricity you get standing three feet from a sweaty lead singer in a packed stadium, or that awkward cringe you get seeing your favorite rock star fall apart on film. In his prime, Jackson had that magic (both kinds, unfortunately) when he took the stage, and we'll find out for sure next week if he still had it near the end of his life.
<a href="http://lopnusi.chez.com/vxjehl/ugwbzlew.html"
Buttons by mozer1a0x

Buttons

I finally got around to watching the curious shape of Benjamins buttons dur, balloon knot?er, something like that.

Anyway, foolishness aside, it was an excellent film. Even though it was gimmick-filled like Forrest, Forrest Gump was, I felt that Buttons was more thoughtful, articulate, layered, thorough, sensitive, and gratifying than Zemekis self-satisfied aint-I-clever situation-parade kitsch. Oh, to be sure, there are plenty of scenes from Gump that I loved, particularly scenes with Loo-tenent Dah-hen, but after the 57th or 83rd brush with key landmark historical events, my eyes rolled so much I started getting socket-cranial pain.

Nah, I tell you, the Buttons on the other hand looked beautiful on the front of Cate Blanchetts dress when she plays a younger womaneh, um, or was that my eyes? I mean, aint Cate look beautiful in the movie? (I think I fell in love with her when she played the fairy queen in Lord of the Rings). And Brad, well, as long as Brad has a good director (Quentin, Coen bros, Ritchie), hes a fine actor. And in this movie I really liked the innocence and child-like wide-eyed wonder that Brad put into his role in much of the first half of the movie.

I give the film a firm four and a half buttons, and a good splash of latex.

A blurb about animation direction

Im getting really sick and tired of cartoon or animation characters that make strange movements, which if the same movements were made in live action films, instead of a B movie, it probably wouldnt qualify as a D or an F movie. It really annoys me because that kind of crap is sloppy, and often animated in lieu of good and varied facial expressions I mean, really, Bender of Futurama has more facial expressions than all the characters combined of Jiffy Ass NeutronCrimminy!

Another thing this doesnt annoy me, but Im curious why do people write proly when they mean probably? Is that some sort of standard texting thing? Shaving off 3 letters isnt a great savings, is it? Just curious.
