Inception8 at Daz3d by inception8

About a month ago now I finally got around to submitting something to Daz3d as a product. I got in. To top it off they bought both products from me outright. How cool is that. They're going to give both of them away as a weekly freebie. I'm still a vendor at Renderosity and RDNA (whom I'll be submitting more to). After having been mostly an fascinated onlooker for many years I think it's pretty sweet.

Becoming A Successful Single by angelieg

Being single is a problem that affects a great number of people. What is it about being single that makes people feel bad? Why are people ashamed of being single? We typically go by what we see around us. Messages about couplehood are everywhere. The message that were being fed is that being single should be kept to a short amount of time or avoided altogether if possible, and that you should do everything that you can to find someone. In order to become a successful single, you must be able to recognize and resist the forces at work that make you feel bad about being single. One of the biggest misconceptions in our society today is that you need to be a in a relationship in order to have a happy and meaningful life. However, satisfaction and singleness are not mutually exclusive. Life doesnt have to be a difficult and depressing ordeal just because you are single.

Every one of us strives to be happy and fulfilled. However, too many people make the mistake in thinking that they need a special someone in their lives in order to be happy. If you feel that youre not worth anything unless you are part of a couple, then you wont be. On the other hand, if you decide that your time as a single is a great opportunity to be yourself and make yourself happy, youll find single life much more fulfilling.A positive attitude will be your key to finding happiness in being single. Just like everything else in life, being happy as a single person can be learned, and the learning can be fun as long as you look at it as a positive experience.

Being single is only a problem if you let it be a problem. There is no reason to be depressed or embarrassed about being single. Its affected me for a good portion of my life, and sometimes still does to this day. I used to believe that it wasnt possible to be happy while being single. I couldnt and wouldnt accept being single. Now Ive learned otherwise. You can let the term single make you think of all the negative stereotypes associated with being single, or you can use the power that you, and only you, have to inspire and encourage yourself to become a successful single. There are many singles out there that have overcome our situations and led happy and fulfilling lives. The problem is not that we are single; the problem is our negative views about being single. Les Brown said, You are the only real obstacle in your path to a fulfilling life.

Stress comes even without work! by Oson_the_Unsound

I'm really stressed these days....

I'm supposed to be finding work, but can't find anything that'd suit me. I'm not very good at putting my head down and obeying and wasting my life pushing a broom, but it seems like these days that's all the work there is. I've got problems with motivation and authority and all the shit you have to be good at to be a successful employee, so it's been real tough. Everyone already works the jobs I want. Worse, I applied at UPS, got an interview, and then they didn't call me back. I was sure I nailed it, but I got a quick look at a sheet that said that 3 people had been before me, so I thought that one of them got it. But then I went on the jobfinder website I'd found their ad on and it was back up! So I was like "WTF, I want that job! CALL ME BACK"... sometimes unexplainable stuff happens.

I also seem to have lost my phone. I can't hear the ring, and I'm sure the battery will run out and that'll be all she wrote. FUCK. I might have gotten a call back about that job (probably not), but can't even return the call!!

And I was walking to my doctors' appointment today and my headphones suddenly shorted out!! And now they play, but won't play bass. FUCK, I bought them pretty recently, I hate it when this happens!

I feel like things are out of control, as usual. I'm supposed to be dealing with my crippling social anxiety, but don't really know how to do it. It's like this huge hill that I'm just supposed to get over, but I don't know how. I'm supposed to spend time with people but can't. I hate this, man. Life's so fucking stressful, I keep just wanting to hide from it. I'm going to go walk around and apply to places again tomorrow. FUCK I hate work! I can never find work I like or that I'm good at...

I guess I'm saying that being an adult is rough.

Another semester ends... by DianaKT

Last week were the last days of class, and my final critiques for my studio classes. The critiques I had were for Ceramics II, Printmaking I, and Painting II.

In both Printmaking and Ceramics II, we had to present all the works done during the semester. Both were very successful not only for me, but also for all my classmates . Both teachers were very happy with all our pieces and said it had been one of the most successful semesters in a while .

As for Painting II, the final assignment was to do a landscape, and so I presented my "Bridge to Education" painting. I didn't really receive the feedback I wanted from my teacher. He only said that I had overused the white but he appreciated the effort I put into it. Pretty lousy I must say.

Still, it was very fun to paint that landscape . I would have liked to spend more time in it and give it more details to the foreground (it was the last thing I did, and I kind of rushed it in the end to finish it.) It was very fun because I had the experience of having to take the easel, paint, brushes, and my stuff from inside the painting room all the way to the location where I was going to paint (which was the hallway on the second floor of a building, meaning I had to take the elevator). On the way I had to cross a street twice and bear with the noise made by the wheels on the easel rolling over brick paths, as well as strong wind. It was quite an adventure!

Well, now that I'm done, I'll have to find the time to get to do some more artwork since I'll start helping my mom with her business full time(she runs a bead shop). I want to at least get to do a good bunch of business cards during these summer vacations .

Illustrating my second children's book! by Swandieve

So I just finished meeting with a lady for illustrating a children's book.

It went so well. We really clicked and are both so pumped up and excited to get started. ..! We don't have money so I'll be doing a few things (including a webpage) on spec to promote and get some money raised. Between her family and friends, and my family and friends, we should be able to get it.

It's funny because we're talking about how to raise money, and then I realized halfway through the conversation that we're talking about how to raise money... for ME. Lulu.com is a printing company where you don't have to pay any self-publishing fees up front... they Print On Demand-- They have the book on file, and if somebody orders the book, they print it. The person who buys the book pays for the cost of printing and the author/illustrator's commission. It's a great system, and you still get an ISBN #.

So all this money we're raising? It's just for me. So I can draw the book and make her dreams come true. Doesn't that sound crazy?

So we'll be doing promotion and our sponsors are not without their perks. Our ideas are not quite concrete yet but basically, 10 bucks gets your name in the back of the book, 50 bucks gets a little character in the book (like if you want a purple snail)... 100 bucks gets a larger character who is named after you. Something like that ... Something that will just be fun for everybody all around.

She and I were on such an even keel with the book... she understood the need for white space and was relieved to hear that I did too... she wanted the words to do fun things like curve around and I was excited to hear that.... She loves how my work is slightly "warped"-- which is something I didn't get to express quite as much with the first children's book I did. So I felt comfortable to break out the sketchbooks with some of my more twisted drawings. ... OH and she is DEFINITELY not a comic sans kind of girl. Scooooorrrrree!

She also acknowledged that I have lots of different styles, and wanted to come up with her own trademark style for her series, which I am excited for. Kind of like how Quentin Blake is associated with Roald Dahl, and Dr.Seuss has his own distinct style... the Bernstein Bears... like that. So this is great because I've been wanting to experiment more with mixing traditional and digital. My first book was all in photoshop, and after a while it felt stifling to me. I wanted to get away and start drawing outside in the sun! I also felt like I lost a lot of my own voice because of that. So if I can set up a good drawing/scan/coloring/drawing system that would be awesome.

I love how she listened to me and wanted to address how to make this the best experience for both of us. And yeah. Good meeting. I am excited because i really wanted a fun summer project. I need to work so much so that i can buy a car and move out, it was seeming like it was just gonna be work work work and living like I'm broke broke broke so I can save save save.

eeee!!

Hey Artician by kman

It feels like it's been ages since I've spent quality time on Artician. Is there any hope of becoming nearly as active in the near future, afraid not. My time has become ever so prioritized, and as sad as it is I'm as far from Art as I'll ever be. Two years ago I made the decision to program video games, and I am five months away from living my dream (well getting paid for it).

I started final project last week. Essentially it marks the end of our education, and now begins a different form of learning. The kind others are only privileged to experience in the industry or in post grad studies. We'll be pitching two game ideas this Wed, one of which will be fleshed out into a Game Bible, accompanied by Gantt charts, intense UML diagrams, and than development into a polished product (well I hope). Despite lack of final exams, coding labs, we are busier than ever. I particularly took on the role as project officer, and my main job has been to keep the team on track (I was lucky enough to be part of the ultimate dream team of programmers, and this has been largely a non-issue). But I think most importantly my job has been to motivate and inspire others.

My approach has never involved, criticism (constructive or not), and it has always been about hands off leadership. In certain cases this is very dangerous, and I would recommend this for everyone. My method is based on inspiration. I work hard everyday, and don't ask the same of others. If you wait long enough, people begin to feel uneasy, and soon enough you'll be shocked and amazed at the sort of things that they will do without even saying a word. I think the job of any project leader is to do one thing and one thing only. Make the job of other easier, and more productive. As long as you can justify what your doing as such, your safe, and in time you'll gain the sort of respect that doesn't go away. Better yet, you make friends.

I've got a new website up btw.

http://www.michaelkofman.com/

It's in development-ish, I don't do web design anymore, and I actually had to spend a good minute to get back into CSS yet alone learn some PHP (I just can't take it seriously, no matter how hard I try). Hopefully in the coming months I'll beef it up just a bit, and feed my obsession for perfection.

My immediate goals are to drive the game project forward, and keep up with my other duties ( a Mars based education game for NASA, a research internship for AI, and the ever difficult task of maintaining a proper living environment; cooking, cleaning, laundry, paying the bills ).

I hope that Artician is doing well without me trolling the forums and new submissions. Eric is a great guy that is determined and I'd go as far as to say destined for great things. Along with Henry, one of the few people who I can truly be myself around, I wish you guys the best and of course keep on doing what you guys do!
