I am even reading The Great Gatsby at the moment, which overwhelms my brain with awesome. But yeah, I didn't feel as comfortable replying with 'well I had an idea about a necromancer... *cough*'. So I decided to write a story about a Agoraphobic male who lives with his grandmother and slowly develops a romance with a female computer game character.

LoL.

It's a bit inspired by The Sims 3 to be honest. In the half our of free time I have each day before I go to work, I play Sims. It is weird how everything is so much more fun when it is an intense pleasure. I am sure I have more fun in that half hour a day then I would if I got a day off work to play.... Days off work. Yeah I remember them.... ;p

So I've not been around as you can see. I'm still working in the pharmaceutical industry with a prison type schedule, but on a GOOD note, my love and I have landed right in the lap of an entrepreneurial opportunity that we're grabbing tight hold of. We love the online life as you know and what started off as a side project has turned into a business. Jess and I work for Kwaaigames, a division of Kwaai Software.

We've been working on a facebook game that is vampire character based and Jess is now the Creative Director. W00t! The game is gorgeous and I've been elected to manage the operations of all departments, so that has both of us uncommonly busy. Still much to do, but I'm back in the online community forums, and headed toward building this business up all proper

Didn't see it coming but couldn't be happier! We'll be on several online community platforms with an array of games. I'll keep you guys posted!

I'm sure if you've brought home a game recently or browsed through gamers forums you'll have noticed that the hot topic that's been around for a long time now is DRM and how it's killing the PC Gaming Industry.

In my opinion, The PC is the strongest format to game on because it's so scaleable and can be modified easily and quickly. A Console has to have a new "Generation" released every time the hardware changes making it the least viable choice for me. For a long time i believed that even if consoles were to completely die out gaming would be preserved by the almight PC.

However, with the recession really biting and games developers feeling the pinch, Piracy has seriously been the center of attention lately when it comes to developing games, there's no concern about creating a remotely good game anymore; it's all about trying to stop people pirating it.

For starters, why would a crap game get pirated? I see no logic there. Moving on, Good games like Bioshock and Far Cry 2 and even FEAR (which is BORDERING on a good game) have had the worst copy protection known to man kind placed upon their shoulders like an albatross that's swallowed a lead weight.

Far Cry 2's DRM means re-activating the game every time a piece of hardware changes, the operating system is re-installed or it gets uninstalled. Now don't get me wrong it's viable for people that don't modify and beta test things like i do, but because i DO those things it's immensely annoying. However i've had worse... and the worst is coming. Bioshock's DRM Truly is a pain in the arse, in fact it's more than a pain, It's like having a spear rammed up there and then jiggled about until your organs are dropping out.

This DRM is known as... *shiver* SecuROM. Every time the operating system is reinstalled, hardware is changed or the game is reinstalled (like FC2's) the game must be re-activated... HOWEVER, you have a limited number of activations. I'm down to my last 1, I love Bioshock but because of this protection i'm scared to install it because i'm not shelling out 20 in phone bills to get my activations back.

These methods of copy protection are what DRIVE people to pirate things, because people that pirate them don't have to put up with the crap.

Unity 3D has been a really great experience at my new job at Zeitgeist Games. Although Im under NDA and cant talk about what Ive really been working on, I decided it would be a good idea to share with you a learning demo I put together that demonstrates the capabilities of Unity3D in a browser.
